The gastrointestinal tract is the tract or passageway of the digestive system that leads from the mouth to the anus. The GI tract contains all the major organs of the digestive system, in humans and other animals, including the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Food taken in through the mouth is digested to extract nutrients and absorb energy, and the waste expelled at the anus as faeces. மனித இரையகக் குடற்பாதை (gastrointestinal tract - GIT) என்பது, மனிதனின் வயிறும், குடலும் சேர்ந்த மனித சமிபாட்டு மண்டலத்தின் ஒரு பிரதானப் பகுதியாகும். பொதுவாக மனித இரையகக் குடற்பாதை என்பது வாயில் தொடங்கி குதம் வரை நீண்டிருக்கும் குழாய் வடிவ அமைப்பிலுள்ள வாய், உணவுக்குழாய், இரைப்பை, சிறுகுடல், பெருங்குடல், குதம் ஆகிய உறுப்புக்களைக் குறிக்கிறது. இவற்றுடன் நாக்கு, உமிழ்நீர்ச் சுரப்பிகள், கணையம், கல்லீரல், பித்தப்பை ஆகிய உறுப்புகளும் இணைந்து மனித சமிபாட்டு மண்டலத்தை உருவாக்குகிறது. இம்மண்டலத்தில் சமிபாடு என்பது பல நிலைகளில் நிகழ்கிறது. சமிபாட்டுச் செயல்முறை வாயில் உணவு அரைக்கப்படுவதிலிருந்து தொடங்கி, உடலுக்குத் தேவையான சத்துக்கள் உடலினுள் அகத்துறிஞ்சப்பட்ட பின்னர், குதம் வழியாக கழிவுகள் வெளியேறுவதுவரை நடைபெறுகிறது.
